Anna Golubeva is launching her research career at the cutting edge of modern physics. She is exploring quantum many-body systems, trying to understand precisely how interactions between microscopic particles lead to complex properties of the macroscopic system. Her discoveries are revealing more details about one of the most difficult set of problems in physics and bringing us one step closer to a future of quantum computing. Golubeva is using machine learning, a tool from artificial intelligence, to handle the heavy computing necessary for untangling the web of information produced by quantum many-body systems. Her approach is so modern, the young scientist’s research serves two purposes: to uncover secrets hidden in quantum many-body systems, and to increase the power of the very machine learning techniques she is employing. As such, Golubeva is well positioned to have a major impact on the advancement of machine learning in physics and science in general.
